Re: Digital Photo Download Procedure
Taking the photos is the easy part. They quickly become lost if they aren’t filed properly. The following is a procedure for proper storage of your digital photos.
We have several of these cameras because they take a decent photo, are reasonably priced, are easy to use and the front cover protects the lens. These cameras hook up to a computer using a USB port. The procedure for transferring photos is basically the same for the Engineering, Survey, & Inspection but the network locations will be different. Depending upon the computer Operating System, the software load and configuration, the procedure varies slightly.
1. Plug the camera into the computer using a USB cable.
2. The screen on the camera turns on recognizing the USB connection. PC is highlighted. Press OK to confirm that you want to connect to the PC.
3. The Camedia Software should start depending upon PC configuration. If it doesn’t start, just go to the start menu and start the program. If some other program starts, you may choose to use it or close it down and start Camedia if it is loaded on your computer. The rest of the procedure describes the transfer process using Camedia.
4. Click on “Transfer Images From Camera” and you will see thumbnails of all the photos in the camera as well as a list of disk drives and folders in the Media panel on the right side of the screen.
5. Navigate in the Media folders to the intended destination for the photos on the storage drive. (See Network locations for file storage below)
6. Select the files to be transferred using the shift and control keys as necessary.
7. There is an option under the transfer button to transfer all images or selected images. Insure the appropriate selection is picked.
8. Click on the transfer button.
9. The Camedia software can be closed out now.
Engineering –
T:\Land Projects R2\project number\images\date\
If the project isn’t on the network yet, it must be created before downloading the images. The date must be the date that the photos are downloaded (not the date the photos are taken) and in the format MM-DD-YY (using hyphens instead of slashes)
Survey –
T:\Land Projects R2\project number\survey\images\date\
If the project isn’t on the network yet, it must be created before downloading the images. The date must be the date that the photos are downloaded (not the date the photos are taken) and in the format MM-DD-YY (using hyphens instead of slashes)
Inspection –
T:\Inspection\Photos\project description and date\
Inspection photos may or may not have formal project numbering. The description should be unique and descriptive enough for anyone to find what they are looking for. The date must be the date that the photos are downloaded (not the date the photos are taken) and in the format MM-DD-YY (using hyphens instead of slashes)
1. In the playback mode top menu, select MODE MENU -> CARD -> CARD SETUP, then press the right arrow button.
2. Press the up or down arrow buttons to select ALL ERASE, then press OK.
3. Press the up or down arrow buttons to select YES, then press OK.
Please contact me if you have any questions concerning this procedure or need further clarification.
Thank You,
Tom Hanley
